❤️ Simon Haykin 🐹

"Er. Prof. Simon Haykin is Professor of Electrical Engineering; noted for his pioneering work in Adaptive Signal Processing with emphasis on applications to Radar Engineering and Telecom Technology. He is currently Distinguished University Professor at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. He received BSc (First-Class Honours); Ph.D., and DSc., degrees-all in Electrical Engineering from University of Birmingham, UK (England). He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada, and a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. In 2002 he became a recipient of Henry Booker Gold Medal from URSI and in 1999 received Hon. Degree of Doctor of Technical Science from ETH Zurich, Switzerland, and many other medals and prizes. In mid-1980s, he shifted thrust of his research effort in direction of Neural Computation, which was re-emerging at that time. All along, he had a vision of revisiting fields of radar engineering and telecom technology from a brand new perspective. That vision became a reality in early years of this century with publication of two seminal journal papers: “Cognitive Radio: Brain-empowered Wireless communications”, which appeared in IEEE J. Selected Areas in Communications, Feb. 2005. “Cognitive Radar: A Way of the Future”, which appeared in the IEEE J. Signal Processing, Feb. 2006. Cognitive Radio and Cognitive Radar are two important parts of a much wider and integrative field: Cognitive Dynamic Systems, research into which has become his passion. "Macaria abydata, commonly known as the dot-lined angle, is a moth of the family Geometridae. It is native from northern Argentina to the Caribbean and southern United States (southern states from Arizona to Florida, regularly wandering north to Colorado, Kentucky and other more northern states). It has been introduced to the Pacific and has spread rapidly since. The first introduction occurred in Hawaii in 1970 (recorded from all the main islands in 1984). Further spread occurred as follows: *1975: Yap, central Micronesia *1976: Bonin Islands (Chichi-jima, Haha-jima) *1977: Saipan, central Micronesia (1985) *1980: Okinawa Island *1983: Taiwan *1985: Guam, central Micronesia (1985) Sulawesi (1986) *1986: Tonga (1985), Fiji (1985), Miyako Islands (Miyako-jima), Luzon, the Philippines (1985) *1987: New Caledonia (1985), Sabah, Malaysia *1988: western Samoa (1985) *1992: Hong Kong The wingspan is 22–27 mm. Recorded host plants for larvae in its natural range are Vachellia farnesiana, Cassia, Sesbania, Parkinsonia aculeata and Glycine max. Larvae have been observed on Acacia koa and introduced Lysiloma latisiliquum and Litchi chinensis in Hawaii. In the Indo-Australian tropics it has been reared from Leucaena and Mimosa diplotricha. "Detlef Laugwitz. Detlef Laugwitz (1932–2000) was a German mathematician and historian, who worked in differential geometry, history of mathematics, functional analysis, and non-standard analysis. Biography He was born on 11 May 1932 in Breslau, Germany. Starting in 1949, he studied mathematics, physics, and philosophy at the Georg-August-University at Göttingen, where he received his doctorate in 1954.Differential geometry without the axiom of dimension, Mathematische Zeitschrift Bd.61, 1954, p. 100 Until 1956 he worked in the Mathematical Research Institute of Oberwolfach. In 1958 he became a lecturer at the Technical University of Munich, where he obtained his Habilitation. In 1958 he moved to the Technical University of Darmstadt, where in 1962 he became a professor, and remained until his retirement. From 1976 to 1984 he was a visiting professor at Caltech. Work Laugwitz worked in differential geometry of infinite dimensional vector spaces (his dissertation) and in Finsler geometry. In 1958 he and Curt Schmieden developed their own approach to infinitesimals through field extensions, independently of Abraham Robinson.
