"Ellsworth Township is a civil township of Lake County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 821 at the 2000 census. Communities *Copley was an unincorporated community in Ellsworth Township that developed around a sawmill. It had a post office from 1884 to 1890. *Edgetts was a lumber settlement with a railroad station. It had a post office starting in 1902. *Ellsworth is a community in Ellsworth Township. It was established in 1867. It had a post office from 1872 until 1876. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of , of which is land and (0.57%) is water. Demographics As of the census of 2000, there were 821 people, 309 households, and 221 families residing in the township. The population density was 23.3 per square mile (9.0/km2). There were 557 housing units at an average density of 15.8 per square mile (6.1/km2). The racial makeup of the township was 97.20% White, 0.49% African American, 0.61% Native American, 0.73% from other races, and 0.97% from two or more races. "Luther is a village in Lake County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 318 at the 2010 census. The village is on the boundary between Newkirk Township on the west and Ellsworth Township on the east, with about half of the village in each. It is the site of Hillsdale College's G.H. Gordon Biological Research Station. History The village was named for William A. Luther, a pioneer settler.
